Dancing on Ice 2011: Craig McLachlan wants more sequins!
Craig McLachlan has begged Dancing On Ice costume designers to make his costume as sparkly as possible for his debut on tomorrow night's show.

The former Neighbours star is hoping that if he wears something beautifully flamboyant, people will be distracted from his ropey skating skills.

Craig told The Sun that when he takes to the ice on the ITV show, he will be going for the Dolly Parton look. He told The Sun:

"Blokes on the show in the past haven't been overly keen on sequins and glitter. The costume designer told me many men have very firm ideas on what colours they will not be seen in. I said 'I want to wear every colour of the rainbow – and then some. When it comes to rhinestones and sequins, go for gold and do not stop'. I want people to ask 'Is that Craig, Dolly Parton or Elvis circa 1975?' If I'm razzle-dazzling from the waist up, nobody is noticing that my feet are a little bit lazy."

Craig will take to the ice tomorrow with his professional partner Maria Filippov. The Bulgarian skater has previously been paired with Gareth Gates, Ray Quinn and Gary Lucy.

McLachlan has an on-screen slip up
Dancing On Ice contestant Craig McLachlan didn't inspire confidence in his skating ability when he slipped during a live TV interview.

And to make matters worse, the actor, who played Henry Ramsay in Neighbours, had just been explaining how he'd been improving under partner Maria Filippov's tutelage.

Ex Bugs star Craig had been telling Daybreak hosts Kate Garroway and John Stapleton this morning about his chances on the ITV1 skating show when he almost tumbled - despite being stood still.

The 45-year-old said: "If this show was called celebrities come surfing you've got your winner right here. If it was celebrities and their barbeques I'm your man.

"Celebrities wrestling wallabies I'd probably still win. Ice skating no idea. But in the hands of my beautiful Maria I'm doing pretty well."

Craig, who also appeared on Home & Away, admitted getting in shape for the show had been difficult thanks to work commitments in Australia.

He said: "Training's been a little bit tricky though because I've been tied up with a drama series back in Australia so it's meant a big commute.

"So I would literally be two weeks filming in Australia and then over here for a few days and back to Oz. It's been a bit of a yo-yo."

And the former pop star said it was the flashy costumes that had attracted him to the reality show.

Craig explained: "People say it must have been the excitement of the challenge of learning to skate and certainly working with Chris [Dean] and Jayne [Torvill], legends, perfection on the ice. I've got to be honest with you - it's all about the frocks."

And he admitted he would be happy to perform a routine to his version of Bo Diddley's Mona.

He said: "Trust me if they could knock up a pair of dungarees covered in sequins and studs and I could maybe manage a good mullet wig from one of our theatrical wig suppliers in the West End, who knows?"

Für Craig McLachlan und seine Tanzpartnerin hieß es heute Morgen früh aufstehen, denn die beiden 'Dancing On Ice'-Stars besuchten zwei Shows des britischen Fernsehsenders ITV. Gegen 7:30 Uhr waren sie im Morgenmagazin 'Daybreak' zu Gast und anschließend ging es weiter zu 'Lorraine' (ca. 9:15 Uhr).

Bei Twitter gab es zudem auf dem Account von 'Daybreak' eine Nachricht darüber‎, in welcher die Moderatoren sich freuen, Craig zu sehen:

We're looking forward to seeing [Craig] on @daybreak at 07.35 to talk Dancing on Ice.

Leider fanden sich bis jetzt kaum Bilder zur ersten Sendung der Show. Bisher sind lediglich auf Rex Features und Famous Pictures ein paar wenige Fotos mit Craig zu sehen. Jedoch hat Maria auf ihrem Twitteraccount ein Bild von sich und Craig (http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4227/z1aji.jpg) aus dem Backstagebereich gepostet - süß die zwei, oder?

Craig McLachlan made his debut on 'Dancing on Ice' on the weekend, but will not have to show off his moves until next week.
The '80s Neighbours heart-throb made a quick exit as only half of the celebrities performed in the first show.
McLachlan's biggest competition is shaping up to be rapper Vanilla Ice, who scored 15, and Brian McFadden's ex-partner Kerry Katona, who scored 14.

Craig gets his skates on for TV show
Craig McLachlan is making his TV comeback the modern way - appearing on a UK reality TV show.

The actor, who shot to fame as Henry Ramsay in Neighbours in 1987, will go back to '80s-style lycra for Dancing on Ice.
McLachlan has been training in Australia, but is now in the UK being coached by skating legends Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean.

The Mona singer admitted he had never skated before but was determined to triumph on the ice.
"Anyone who can put on skates and get on the ice really knows how difficult it can be," he said. "We are not talking about carefully edging around the side of the rink. No, it is all that and more."

McLachlan's biggest fear is being sent home early: "I am dreading the possibility of being voted out in week one."

McLachlan will partner Bulgarian-Australian professional skater Maria Filippov. The duo will take to the ice on Sunday.

McLachlan im deutschen Fernsehen
Nachdem das ZDF und ZDFneo im Juni des vergangenen Jahres bereits einmal 'Katharina die Große' zeigten, sahen aufmerksame ZDF-Zuschauer nun am Neujahrstag sowie am 02.01. (jeweils gegen 16Uhr) erneut jenen Zweiteiler, in dem auch Craig McLachlan eine Rolle besetzt.
Leider habe ich es selbst erst beim zappen mitbekommen und konnte Euch somit nicht vorab informieren. Aber vielleicht seid ihr ja ebenfalls so aufmerksam gewesen um zu erkennen, dass wir mal wieder einen Film von Craig serviert bekamen.

Craig McLachlan is training like a maniac' for Dancing On Ice
Dancing On Ice contestant Craig McLachlan has confessed that he has been training like a maniac to prepare for the new series of the ice dance contest, says a report.

The former Neighbours star told Digital Spy that he has been preparing for the reality TV contest.
Craig said: "I wasn't sure what I was going to be in for with the training for this so I've just been training like a maniac. The interesting thing is, I was really fit going into it, but I've discovered pretty quickly that that has nothing to do with it in terms of just learning the techniques. I guess it's got to help."

McLachlan admitted that he has been astonished by watching the professional skaters preparing for the contest.
He said: "What is really amazing is that some of the boys - their technique is phenomenal. When they were warming up today on the ice and just doing one-handed lifts, I get as much of a kick watching those cats warm up as I do going out there myself." He added: "What steroid are they on?"
